Teen Patti Game

The words “Teen Patti” mean 3 cards. The name itself explains that it is a game you play with 3 cards in your hand at a time. This Indian game of gambling with cards has been inspired by the English game three-card brag.
The roots of this game go to poker, one of the most well-known card games played around the world. However, in India, there’s a larger audience playing Teen Patti, especially among the middle-aged and elderly groups.
It is a simple game people enjoy playing during occasions as well as casual gatherings. You need a minimum of 3 players for the game but won’t enjoy it if there aren’t at least 5-6 people in the group.

What Is It All About?

Teen Patti is purely gambling. You may say that it is very similar to poker. A major difference between the 2 games is the number of cards you play with – 6 in case of poker and 3 in case of teen patti. The motto is to make money by the end of the game. Unlike usual games, you can end teen patti whenever you feel like. This means that you can go on and on if you want as well. You need a pack of 52 cards without jokers, some poker chips, cash and 5-6 people who know how to play. Like any other gambling game, everybody has to chip in some money in the centre, which starts increasing as the game progresses.
To understand the game, there are two things you need to understand – the hierarchy of cards and the hierarchy of sets needed to win.

Coming to the card numbers, the ace is the highest level of card followed by king, queen, jack, ten and going down the numbers. The lowest comes to 2.

When the dealer distributes cards, you all get a set of 3 cards, which could have any random combination. You are eligible to bet on the basis of 6 types of combinations. The hierarchy goes as: Trio (3 Aces / 3 Kings / 3 Queens /…)

Sequence of the same shape, also known as pure sequence (Ace, King and Queen of diamonds / King, Queen, Jack of clubs /…)

Sequence of any shape (Ace of diamonds, King of hearts and Queen of spades / King of clubs, Queen of diamonds and Jack of diamonds /….)

All 3 cards of the same colour, or rather the same shape (Ace, 5 and Jack of hearts / 2, 6 and Queen of spades / …) Having any two cards of the same number or face (2 Aces / 2 Kings / 2 cards of 10 /…) Any one high card (preferably between Ace to Jack)

How to Play Teen Patti?

This is how to play teen patti: The dealer needs to distribute cards in a clockwise direction, starting from the player sitting next to him or her. Once everybody has 3 cards and chip in the minimum amount, the player next to the dealer (in clockwise direction) will begin the game.

It is very unlikely to get the first 5 combinations, the 6th one having the highest chances. When the game begins, you either bet more or you choose to opt out of the game.
Usually, we bet when we can take the risk of bluffing, or we are confident enough to win on getting any of the above 6 combinations.

When we don’t have a good set of cards, we do opt-out.

Now, how does bluffing really work?
Suppose, you have 2, 6 and 8. All 3 are of different shapes. Clearly, other people can have better cards. However, if you bet instead of quitting, other players might think you have great cards and higher chances of winning. In the end, if everybody opts out of the game, you win all the money that was chipped in.

However, if you’ve been bluffing against a player who has better cards and finally demands you to show, you lose everything that you gave in!
